Stepping into the worship space of a Catholic church, whether Mass is going on or not, is entering sacred space—space set apart for the worship of our Lord. Jesus is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament reserved in the tabernacle, making the church not simply a gathering place but a dwelling place of the Lord.

For this reason, upon entering and leaving the church, we reverently genuflect (if there are no physical impediments)—bending the right knee to the ground toward the tabernacle—as an act of adoration and respect for Christ's Real Presence. This simple gesture serves as a reminder that we are entering into God's presence, inviting us to set aside the distractions of daily life and prepare our hearts for prayer, worship, and encounter with the Lord.
