In late 2024, the Centennial Committee agreed to a special project to commemorate our 100th birthday. Our desire was one that would bring glory to the Lord while honoring our Blessed Mother. The project focused on enhancing the beauty of our St. Benedict Chapel.
After partnering with a team from New Holland Church Furniture, the collaborative process began. Deacon Joe and I, along with our wives and a small group of parishioners, discussed several ideas as a basis for our designs. Next, we worked with their team until we had final renderings for our pieces. After we chose the wood species, brass applications, and fabrics, the manufacturing of our new altar, baptismal font, lectern, presider chair, altar candles, and kneeler began. In addition, the group agreed on a portrait of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and Fr. Peter Gray was commissioned to complete it. Finally, a parishioner gifted the latest addition, a beautiful Crucifix, handcrafted in Italy.
While awaiting our delivery, our beloved Leo repainted the entire space, re-stained and reupholstered the existing kneelers, and collaborated with other staff members to enhance the beauty of our sacred space.
Deacon Joe and I are very grateful for all the time and talent that so many contributed. We are humbled by the financial generosity of several families and individuals who contributed over $35,000 to complete the project. And as God would have it, during the process, a parishioner was moved by the Spirit and donated our beautiful new monstrance that is now in use during Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
On Saturday evening, July 12, 2025, during our Centennial Mass, Bishop Kevin Sweeney blessed the new furnishings and portrait.
Going forward, in addition to using the Chapel for baptisms, Holy Hours, Friday Adoration, and the 7:30 AM Mass during Lent, we plan to use it for other spiritually enriching events.
The Chapel is open during the day and early evening for personal prayer and reflection. We invite all of you to experience this beautiful space and to give praise and glory to our Lord and to our patroness.
